Off A629, About 5 miles SW of Barnsley.
A water-driven heavy iron forge, built originally as a finery and chafery forge. The building
dates from the early 17th century. From 1840 until 1908 it was used to forge railway axles. The forge
is preserved in 1900 condition. Three waterwheels in working order and the machinery includes helve hammers
and wooden jib cranes. Workshop buildings restored to house stationary engines.
Opening times 2016 Easter to start of November, Sundays and bank holiday Mondays, 11.00-17.00. Parties at other times by arrangement.
