Ballycopeland Windmill, Millisle

At Millisle. From Belfast, take A20 to Newtonards, then B172. Follow brown signs.

A 4-storey, tower mill with a boat-shaped cap. Built in the late 18th or early 19th century, it was worked by the McGilton family until the First World War, and between 1950 and 1978 it was gradually restored to full working order after falling into disrepair. The only surviving mill with sails incorporating Captain Hooper's Patent Reefing Gear. The mill is in the care of the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland.

Not open at present.  Usually July & August only, 10.00-17.00 daily.  To be confirmed.
