Akula

The Dutch-built Akula is an expedition superyacht that delivers excellent seakeeping and comfort.

Akula is a wonderful example of a brilliantly executed conversion project, transforming a tough Dutch pilot vessel into the superyacht we see today.

Originally built in Holland to the highest naval specification, her condition today reflects her high standard of construction and the maintenance and care that has followed throughout her life.

The steel-and-aluminium yacht Akula was converted to a world cruising explorer yacht in 1999 at the Vosper Thornycraft shipyard. Renowned superyacht design firm BMT Nigel Gee provided all naval architecture and structural design for the conversion, including the addition of a flight deck and helicopter hangar. A further interior and exterior refit was completed at HX2 in La Ciotat in 2008, and an engine overhaul was completed in Malta in 2010.

Akula was refitted to accommodate professional helicopter operations and to be able to cruise the most unfriendly of oceans in style, safety and comfort. Akula is well equipped with four Vosper stabilizers that assist rough weather helicopter operations allowing comfortable landings in up to around Force 6 weather conditions.

Akula's Accommodation

She accommodates 10 guests in five comfortable cabins, with a master, two doubles and two twins. A high ratio of crew to guests looks after Akula, with 17 crew members on board.
